Wonderful place, live music started at about 21:00, piano, jazz guitar and later on a warm and silky voice. The old man that owns the place is a bit crabby at the beginning but then once he acquaints himself with you he becomes sweet and kind. The best thing about this place is the old and intimate atmosphere. Acoustically the place is perfect for jazz altough better loudspeakers it would be a nice touch to the place.
Fantastic venue, Very good wine and great entertainment. If you want a genuine Jazz club full of people of all ages this is the place to go.
One of the only places in town you can hear you can listen to musicians play jazz with the gloves off! Amazingly informal,it seems to be a free for all for musicians young & old & whoever comes in through the door. Youve gotta stay for a whole night(sat esp)-10 onwards I reckon -to get the full benefit. Genuine jazz dive & the owner has to be seen to be believed..
The Jazz Cafe is amazing.
Pink Lane Poetry and Performance is on every month and it's the best night out ever. I wasn't to sure when I first went because I didn't know what to expect but I was blown away. One minute you are watching poetry the next you are listening to an opera singer, then comedy sketches, more poetry, then music and singing.
It's so diverse with a great supportive and fun atmosphere. I'd totally recommend it.
Visited in August 2009. Place was empty.
Asked for two coffees and was abruptly told by rude barman that the coffee machine (i.e kettle) wasn't working.
Obviously they don't need the custom?
Jazz is always good to listen to when you're drunk for it suddenly makes sense away you cant understand when sober, and when the drinks are flowing this place is great. However, i feel the smoking ban has dampened such establisments and part of its charm is gone forever. still, this place is above tolerable.
