The place is transformed - fabulous food & service (5 stars) & thankfully we were sat in the conservatory so the band wasn't intrusive but if in the main area wouldnt have been as content. It is trying to please everyone but showing the football & excessively loud bands will put discerning food loving folk off which is a shame cos its a genuine top class restaurant - Silversmiths in Sheffield had a similar identity crisis until Mr Ramsey rescued it so i hope the Lights management see the light & give Bravi a run for its money as the class act in Shields!
The food was OK, but as a dairy allergy sufferer I couldn't have some of the veg or mash, this wouldn't have been a problem if they had given me some extra roast spuds as I asked for, my portion of pork was also tiny (for the £10.95 price tag) so I was starving by the time the meal was over. The icing on the cake was the apple sauce which was blatantly out of a jar, quite frankly I was horrified, no wonder the chap didn't win masterchef. I think a restaurant can be judged on how they deal with allergies, I'm used to not being able to have some of the food on offer, but a good restaurant will accomodate this and offer an alternative or at least give you extra portions of the food you can eat.
There was also no baby changing facilities, I had to change my 18month old on the floor of the beer garden! If you have young kids I wouldn't bother going, you wait a long time between courses (over 2.5hrs for a two course meal).
All in all it was a bit of a disappointment, next time I'll be back to the Ridley Arms in Stannington, excellent food, massive portions and a bit cheaper.
Great eating, above average for a pub, very relaxed atmosphere and staff are welcoming, even to non- regulars like us! All you can wish from a pub. The views out to sea and the Tynemouth Priory are an added bonus.
Great pub been in there quite a few times and always have a good time. Food is really nice and is always served just right.
