Me and the Mrs went here for the comedy night recently and had a good time. I read the reviews about bad food and stuff, we just had some tapas platter thing and it were canny. The comedy was really good though, wed not been to a comedy night before but we saw some really funny people but the guy that was on last was unbelievably funny. apparently hes been on tv but wed not heard of him.
If we are in newcastle again wed go back again if the comedy was on.

Mimo only scraped a 1 star because of it's ok 2for1 cocktails but if you eat there you're seriously risking your health. My partner and I both ordered burgers, his was so well cooked/burnt that it only filled a small part of the dry bun. I didn't know fries could be cooked so badly, and I use the term 'cooked' very loosely, it was more likely that they'd been floating in old oil for a week and then warmed up with a candle flame. My burger was still frozen in the middle and a soggy mess on the edges. I didn't want to risk getting a replacement, but when we complained about the food, there wasn't even an apology let alone an offer of a refund from the totally unsurprised looking waitress. We got a very unconvincing "I'll have a word" from her and then nothing more. I've just found out he has a Groupon for it too. I'm hoping we can get out of that one!

In contrast to several of the other reviews I would like to say how much my wife and I enjoyed our meal here on 08/01/2012.
We visited Mimo at about 6.30 p.m on a Sunday evening.
The staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive, service was rapid both for ordering and presentation of food.
All of the three courses we had were excellent- the Knickerbocker glory was perhaps not brilliant but nevertheless very nice.
I hasten to add that I would not have wished to pay the full normal menu prices- we visited using a Groupon voucher, and I consider that we got extremely good value for money- would not hesitate to return.
My suspicions are that most of the negative, derogatory comments on this site regarding Mimo, are posted by malicious competitors.

I can assure you I am not a malicious competitor, just someone who was out for the night with her partner. After experiencing the disgusting food in this place I can say I believe every word the previous reviewers have written. I just wish I'd checked Mimo out on here before going. Lesson learned!

I'm glad you had a good experience, (if you are a legitimate customer) you were one of the few lucky ones.

Me and my wife also got a voucher for here so we thought we'd head down for a nice night out. We got in sat at a dirty/sticky at the back and looked at the menu. there was a couple sitting in front of us and when a waitress finaly came over to give us our drinks they complained to her they had waited an hour and a half for the starter (chicken wings) i joked 'thats a good start' to my wife, we ordered garlic bread. 45 minutes and nothing had turned up so i asked at the bar another 10 minutes and we got 3 slices of out of the freezer garlic baguette, which was burnt. we ordered a chicken burger and a double burger, an HOUR after this and still nothing so i asked at the bar and sat down i noticed them looking in the dumb waiter lift and taking two plates out, god knows how long they had been sitting there. A girl brought 2 plates over but there was no chicken burger just the normal cheapest burger and my double, i said this wasnt our order and that it wasnt a chicken burger, the girl even looked at the 'chicken' burger and said 'are you sure?' :S
She took them back and put them into the lift again, i watched them this time and a few minutes later she got 2 plates out of the lift and came back over. It was the same meals.. we said we'll just take them but after a few cold chips my wife gave up i started eating mine which just fell to bits from inside its tiny bun to reveal it was bright pink inside! I took it to the bar and we left, sod the ice cream.
i know of other people who have vouchers for Mimo and have warned them, either the service and food is better earlier during the day (we had a 7:30 table booking, food arrived after 9) or its just terrible full stop. Really would not recommend this place for health and sanity reasons. Stick to being a bar and you still might have a chance Mimo.

Seems like loads of people have had the same or similar experience. I emailed MiMo to tell them but, as expected, no response as yet. I also emailed Groupon to warn them not to work with MiMo again. It's worth letting you know that I have been to Cafe Med in Jesmond four times using Groupon or Living Social vouchers so can definitely recommend them if you ever see them advertised ??

I think we can safely say, that the rather specific, "Chumpster" clearly works for an alternative venue!

We visited MiMo recently and, thankfully, had the GroupOn voucher as would not have wanted to pay full price. We arrived at 2pm on a Saturday afternoon - you would expect a restaurant to have plenty of people in - but it was dead. In hindsight, we should have gone somewhere else. We were greeted by some pleasant waitresses, but that's where the good points stop. We were sat at a dirty table right at the back of the place. There was a funny smell throughout the venue. We both ordered chicken wings for starters. Whilst being ok in taste, there were what can only be described as chicken hairs on the ends and jelly-like skin on them. The cheese sauce was disgusting. We persevered and order chicken burgers with pineapple for our mains. The chicken was half the size of the bun, the bun was burnt, there was no salad or sauce on so incredibly dry and the pineapple was dry and like polystyrene. The chips were so overcooked I could have chipped a tooth. Our desert was knickerblocker glory. To be fair, these were actually nice, but, to be honest, how can you get ice cream wrong? We had a couple of cokes and towards the end of the meal we noticed that the glasses were far from clean and there were bits floating in the coke. We dared to use the toilets and found that they were out of soap and the doors didn't have any locks on.

I have never actually written a review like this before as I've never had such a bad experience. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this place. Disgusting food, bad cleanliness, gross toilets and the place smells. They really shouldn't be offering food. Sack the chef!!

One star. Really mediocre experience at this "american" themed bar. Bad decor, bad food, waitresses can't be bothered and more interested in their iphones than taking care of customers. Glad we had a voucher for this place as I would never have paid what they were asking on the menu. Owner struts around, obviously wondering why there are not many customers in there. My view is its some long time fantasy of his to run a miami themed bar, but it just looks dated and naff, something which might have looked good in the 80's, but not now. I was expecting tom cruise to appear behind the bar and start shaking some cocktails (not a compliment). All the food is either quick fried, microwaved or out of a packet or jar. Avoid this place please, the owner needs to realise he's getting it all wrong and needs to scrap the food, change the decor and progress into 2012 with a good bar serving quality drinks, or a high quality restaurant with a highly trained chef. Stay away!

I would give it no stars if I could. We arrived in our party of 6 at 5:15pm. We were sat at the front of the bar to obviously make it look like the place was "buzzing" it was not. It never even got going. We had came for food and were pleasantly surprised at the starter and main for £5.95 deal. We thought this is to could to be true. The surprise and happiness quickly turned sour.

The cocktails on a 241 deal arrived in frozen pineapples and lacked any substance or flavour. The frozen pineapple element is a cheap way of being able to re-use the pineapple.

So we arrived at 5:15pm and our orders were placed by 5:30pm. At 6:15pm we enquired where our starters were to be told they were defrosting the ribs, they must have been thawing the things out in the hope we would stay for more drinks. Evetually they arrived at 6:30pm, and you guessed it they were cold. We complained to the girl who just looked back at us blankley before getting some more ribs put on. The second lot were hot but no bbq sauce at this point we were a bit put off. The other starters ordered were also a disgrace. King Prawns with sweet chilli sauce, was a tin of tomatoes with chilli flakes in, and chicken wings with cheese sauce was milky and watery.

By now we were contemplating walking out, nobody would have known or cared. But just as we were ready to make our complaint and leave our mains arrived. Burgers, the advertised pickle was a cheap brand Branston Pickle and the burgers themselves supposdely medium rare were burnt to a crisp with weird bits of onions in. The chips were cold and the one person who went for the chicken burger got a bun and a kids chicken nugget from Mcdonalds.

At this point we decided to complain, once again the girl blankley looked at us no apology no nothing.

My advice go to Mcdonalds its far superior to this place.

We visited Mimo in Pudding Chare Newcastle for lunch as i had purchased a Groupon voucher.

In my opinion it wasn't even worth the £12.00 i paid for the groupon & most certainly not £33.00 the voucher is worth.

I ordered the tempura king prawn starter to be told they were out of king prawns, never mind i had the buffalo wings(4) which was served with what they describe on the menu as a blue cheese dip which turned out to be pieces of blue cheese in oil...yuk truly disagusting. My husband had ribs for starters a tiny offering of 4 tasteless ribs very poor & def won't be back & wouldn't recommend.

Incidentally when you order a steak as my hubby did he was asked which sauce he wanted with it so he opted for blue cheese, unbelievably his so called sauce to go with a steak was the bits if blue cheese in oil!!AVOID.
