Great atmosphere
Best restaurant in Ponteland and one of the best in Newcastle
i have visited fratellis on 4 occasions. once with my husband and 3 times with family in a group of 6 or more.
fratellis is a very child friendly restaurant, the waiters toOK time to talk to the children. we were meeted and greeted as soon as we arrived in the restaurant and shown to our table.
we have been lucky enough on all 3 occasions to be seated in a booth. we were seen to very quickly with regards to ordering drinks and then our food.
on numerous occasions the waiters asked if everything was ok and we were enjoying our food. food took a little while to arrive but this is due to the food being cooked from fresh when ordered.
we have all always enjoyed our food. pizzas are very big, if any is left over the waiters will put it in a pizza box to take home! a brilliant restaurant to visit at all times of the day.
good parking and brilliant access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
have been to fratelli's on a number of occasions, both during the afternoon with my young grandchidren and in the evening with friends and have always found the staff polite, friendly and attentive.
The food is excellent with a good choice to suit everyone including the children. Have recommenced the restaurant to work colleagues who also speak highly of the staff and service.
I'm sure there are a lot of customers with similar opinions as i regularly see the same people frequenting the restaurant.
Dined at this resturant recently for the first and last time.First impressions are good, really liked the space and decor however although there were staff near the entrance when we arrived none looked keen to meet and greet. When seated we were given menus but not the opportunity to order drinks.
We duly selected our dishes, and after approx 15 mins, a waiter did arrive to take our orders, however we had been given the wrong menus -so we had to re-select. This seemed to sum up the attitude of the staff -disinterested and very lax.
The food, when received was nice and we all enjoyed it.Trying to settle our bill was a nightmare, the waiters all practice the art of avoiding eye contact very well. There are no niceties in this restaurant, they do not ask if you have enjoyed your meal, they do not welcome you when you arrive and they certainly do not thank you as you leave. In short, they do not care if you return and in that respect I can fulfill their wishes as I most certainly will not.
Located above sainsburys in Ponteland, the entrance is fairly unimpressive with not much to hint at what awaits you. Once upstairs it is an initially very impressive space, all tricked out with dark wood type fittings, tiles, display bottles of wine & shiny bits. It was Saturday night, we had phoned to book, but were told it wasn't necessary. Upon arriving the place was busy, but we only waited a few minutes to be seated.
The menu is anglicised italian with a number of 'popular' additions (a bit less italian) such as deep fried prawns with chilli sauce.
The service was of the 'attract the attention of one of the staff walking by' type. Attentive it wasn't, though once one had attracted attention, the staff fulfilled your request reasonably effectively.
The food was edible, tho our pizza base-d items on both starter and main course both had burnt oily deposits on their bottoms, caused by contact with a dirty cooking surface. I did mention this to the waiter but it was dismissed by him. Our mushroom risotto seemed to have been made with a 'mushroom flavoured' stock powder, white wine seemed absent and the mushrooms were pickled, but by piling on the parmesan it was quite tasty! Oh we did have to wait an hour between finishing our starter and our main course coming, and then we did have to ask where it was, oh and then they brought the wrong dish for my partner, and we had to sit and wait again for hers to arrive.
We had run out of energy to fight for a pudding... Plus we couldn't stand any more birthday specials - the lights are dimmed and the staff all sing happy birthday, there were 6 of them in the 2 hours we were there.
There is a weird lack of atmosphere for a place stuffed full of maybe 150 punters.
I reckon it is best viewed as a comparison with frankie & benny's or bella pasta. A family oriented, chain like hell-hole. Fur coat and no knickers. Lots of 'injections of start-up capital' but not alot of love for food. Bums on seats love...
