Having been to the sunday carvery, which was exceptional, from the quality of the food, to the portions, to the showmanship and friendliness of the chef carving the meats, I have to say that the management tick most boxes when it comes to running a great pub and restaurant, what lets them down a lot is that families with very noisy, ill behaved children are encouraged, this is not a venue if you want a nice quiet meal. Hence my score of just 3 stars.

The Killingworth Arms one word EXCELLENT.We've been a few times now for a meal & never been dissapointed. Home cooked food at it's best served by friendly staff in a cosy homely village pub.If you order off the menu does take a little while but hayho that means its freshley cooked & not premade & ready to order like other pubs we've tried. We found out recently they had won Sunday Sun pub of the year 2011 & well done to Paul & all his staff fantastic you deserve it.

Went for a meal yesterday and found this local pub quite full.
The food was good and the service was very good. The plates were cold and cutlery had not been wiped clean.
On ordering a beer from the bar I found the glasses to be dirty and it took 3 glasses to get a reasonably clean one. They are obviously put straight on the shelf after washing without a wipe. Beer was warm and I understand there have been a lot of complaints about this. Not a cheap pub so you expect a bit more cleanliness. Toilets are very poor and in need of an upgrade. Doesn't touch some other pubs nearby.

It took about 10 minutes to get served. There was enough staff behind the bar, but as you paid for food and drinks separately, those who were using credit/debit cards the process took some time. This was probably the only real negative of my experience at the Killingworth Arms.

The bar staff were friendly, and as we had not booked a table, they quickly found a table for us.

We decided to go for the 2 course option, the carvery and desert, this cost £9.95 a head which is comparable to other pub Sunday lunches in the area.

We sat down in a large conservatory, this is the main eating room and with the carvery is situated at one end. I think it seated around 40/50 people, it was a little tight for space, when it was full.

Onto the food. Behind the counter was a very friendly chef, who carved on order. I had for the meat choices roast beef and gammon. Nice thick slices of meat. There was a wide selection of fresh vegetables, mashed, boiled and roast potatoes. The gravy was meaty and thick. With my plate piled up high we sat down at our table.

The meat was of good quality, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, not to hard and not to soft. My only concern was with the Yorkshire pudding, it looked amazing, tasted great only I have a feeling they were pre-cooked, frozen and then re-heated. (Common with busy eateries) As I got to the centre of the Yorkshire pudding it was a little cold. This was a minor detail and something that did not spoil the food.

Onto desert, I opted for home made apple crumble and custard as recommended by the waitress and my wife went for the hot chocolate fudge cake and ice-cream. Now I have to say the apple crumble had to be one of the best I have ever tasted, the fresh home-made custard was thick and tasty.

As one table was cleared, it was cleaned and filled with waiting diners, for a small pub this was seriously busy. Its not flashy, or huge like Shiremoor house farm but it offers good wholesome food at great price
