Food Needs a Revamp!!
My sister and I try to meet up for lunch every month and have tried several different pub lunches but for a while now we've preferred 'The Corner' - that is until last week when the Corner House lost two of it's regulars.
Sis ordered the Steak and Ale pie (served with chips and peas), she asked for mash as a change to chips and thoroughly enjoyed most of it - the pastry was simply too hard to cut through and seemed as though the pie had been frozen before cooking. Sis wasn't impressed, I was even less so when, after looking forward to a nice well cooked steak I was told that 'it wasn't on today' and so ordered the fish, chips and mushy peas. I wish I hadn't, the peas tasted of vinegar, the chips were cold, dry and not very fresh and the fish was quite brown inside with batter that was very hard to cut into but the fish was edible so I ate it.
We could have complained yes, but it just didn't enter our heads to do so, we are far too polite and tend to vote with our feet which we have done as we won't be returning. Which is a shame because the staff are friendly, the place has a nice atmosphere (although we've noticed some changes in the clientele over recent months) and the conservatory is lovely on a sunny day.
In my opinion it's time the Corner House updated its' menu and, quite possibly, its' Chef.
