Flynns Bar and Diner

I m a near neighbour of Flynns and yes have been in a number of times, and certainly see it a lot [more than you do]. For the record the bar is constantly under review by the licencing authorities with a view to its closure.

Highlights include underage drinking and constant breaches of licencing conditions. The latest ongoing review is by environmental health [so best hope you didn't eat anything]. It s probably the most complained about bar in Newcastle city centre.

I live on the Quayside, spend most nights in bars and am not a great fan of hot chocolate.

Every other bar on the Quayside plays by the rules, is clean and tidy. Flynns doesn't and consequently is on very thin ice. Pity because it s a great location and could do well.

If you want to drink in the flea pit [at least until licencing finally revoke the licence] go right ahead.

on a stag do last weekend we entered Flynn's on Fri pm, not many customers but it was only 1.30 in the afternoon the place was clean tidy and looked as if refurb work was going on, loved what they had done so far, keep going, the staff are very friendly and helpful, drinks are reasonable house doubles or trebles, or cocktails are what most of us stated with being a stag do you have too, then followed by draft beers and free shots, free bar snacks were available to us all, (the spicy potato skins are great) the music was great just the sort of stuff for a party 70s and 80s got us all in the mode to dance and sing along, by this time the place was busy, it was a great atmosphere, again the staff were great the joined in our attempts at singing along with the tunes. one small problem we did encounter one of the lads (who will remain nameless we all know who he is Muppet) after going to the toilet tyred to jump down the stairs, but did not see (for some reason cant imagine why could it be some thing to do with alcohol) the sloping celling and hit his head, Muppet and claret all over floor, staff great looked after him called medics all sorted in half back in bar to applause and another pint. after several more drinks we left for the afternoon a great place to start our weekend in Newcastle, we returned later that night again had an excellent night,

we had arranged to return the following day for breakfast which we did not all our party could partake in the home cooked full English but some of us really enjoyed it with lots of thick warm toast.

over the weekend we returned to Flynn's several times and on each occasion Had a wonderful time. we found the place inviting staff great the pace was clean and as accommodating to a large group of stags looking for a great weekend we will recommend it to all party lovers and its our intention to return in the summer on a lads weekend WE WILL BE BACK. The group consisted of 28 of us plus the groom The Lancashire lads

Fresh from it's weekly refurb Flynns, formerly purveyors of alcopops to the underclass is on another mission to re-invent itself. Now it's Flynns Bar Diner with, believe it or not a beer garden. Yes that's right a beer garden, not a. Car park, not a. Place to keep the bins. No, amazingly the side alley that used to be one of top spots on the Quayside for a knee trembler or a leak [or both at the same time in many cases] now has seats, still adjacent to the bins of course, keeping up Flynns excellent reputation for class, quality and hygine.

Amazingly a friend of mine was harassed because she stopped off for a drink in the alleged beer garden with her dog - 'you can't have dogs in the beer garden'. Now there are a few possible replies to that:1. Yes you can I ve seen Flynns Bar and Diner on a Saturday,2. Why not, are you worried she'll catch something off the bins that are at the edge of this?3. Can't I let her have a dump first, she'll improve the tone of the placehowever don't you worry pet, a quick glance at the website reveals that far from any attempt to go upmarket Flynns is staying true to it's tried and tested marketing philosophy; nasty customers, nasty drinks, cheap prices [fosters at a quid a pint and trebles for a quid and a half aren't likely to attract the Duke of Northumberland - at least not unless he wants some cheap sheep-dip].

Picking the biggest dive on the quayside is a challenge, but Flynns would be in any right thinking person's top three [along with the toilet under the swing bridge].

Absolute dive! the owner has no idea how to run a bath never mind a business.

as the other review says he is more like jim off jim will fix it than stringfellow. at least string fellow has class.

the place is like walking into a tardis that takes you back to the 70's.

The toilets are crap and usually all blocked up. when i went there last year and got conned in as the lads i was with were on a stag do wanted to go in, i felt like i was gonna chuck up!

the place is tiny and stunk of sweat as there was no air con to keep it cool.

there was an old fool on the dj-decks that couldnt seem to hang the grasp of modern day music.

this place is defo one to miss, even rats probably wouldnt go near the place!!!

Flynns bar a place to avoid. I was there with the girls on a hen night in july 2008 When at the door free shooter tickets were given out but once inside no free shooters. Once inside a small Dated dark room we spoke to a staff member who said no shooters left then he tried to Chat up 3 of my girlfriends while Taking his shirt off to show off his body. As we werenT amused he poured a bottle of beer over his body Egging the hen girl to lick off how gross.

They do serve trebles for 1.95 good except the bottle was Vodkat 22% . Great if you are Drinking DrIVing. Music upstairs was ok with a middle aged guy dj Trying to pose like P. StringFELLOW as he Letched at the girls whilst Gulping Wine. The ladies toilet had abstract decor with a Broken loo Seat and designer sick up the walls. Yes they girl outside Conned us in but we will never go back shame Because Other bars in Newcastle are good. Avoid flynns
