Situated in the heart of Newcastle is the superb Marco Polo restaurant. Here you can wine and dine in a relaxed atmosphere and soak up the Italian ambience. With an imaginative menu and a twist of indulgence a great time will be had by all.

A group of thirteen of us visited on 11 Feb. Waited 2 hours for our meals and when they came some had to be sent back due to the fact they were cold! A pregnant lady was in our party and asked for a bottle of water when we sat down. We are still waiting for it! Service was terrible. We won't be going back
I had low expectations of this restaurant, don't know why but I always do, it surprised me. Some of the dishes were fantastic, the starter of chicken liver crostini was good and the scallop and pea risotto was fantastic. Mains were OK, the belly pork was fantastic, but the accompaying scallops and black pudding lacked flavour and simply didn't work (both the scallop and black pudding lacked flavour and were dissappointing). Puddings were slow to come. Unlike previous reviews we weren't charged for tap water. Overall, not a bad feed and I like what they are doing. Would come here again to see how they get on.
We have visited many times and will do so again.
The place has a great atmosphere and is always busy (a good sign) however this means that service can be slow especially on a Friday or Saturday night.
The food is excellent, recommend the mussels and pizza highly, along with special dishes.
The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food, staff are helpful and attentive.
One of our favourite italian eateries!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal last Saturday (despite a glum waitress) up until we received the bill. A charge had been added for tap water. We debated refusing to pay but eventually did so. We would normally tip after a meal but didn't on this occasion.
An embarrassed Manager told us it was company policy - a policy that had upset numerous customers she said.
We understand a restarant is only obliged to supply FOC tap water in the case of emergencies. We do not care about the rights & wrongs of charging like this. It is the principle that has angered us.
We will not visit Marco Polo again.
