An absolutely extraordinary film and one of the best of 2011. Who would've thought a feature-length silent movie could be made in this age of 3D. I can tell you The Artist is far better than most 3D junk out there. Michel Hazavanicius has made a movie with no dialogue and just music that reminds of why e watch movies taking us on a trip back in time to the early days of cinema. Movies like this and Hugo have proved that we are still in love with the past. Jean Dujardin is delightful in the lead role as aspiring French actor Georges Valentin who falls for actress Peppy Miller (an equally unmissable Berenice Bejo). The French actor gives a remarkable performance tat conveys such emotion ust with facial expressions and there's a fanastic support cast. Everyone must see it for a stunning tribute to silent cinema that deserves to go down in history as an unforgettable cinematic achievement and is sure to pick up Best Picture at the OSCARS. A masterpiece.

Fabulous film. Brilliant acting. Touches parts that very few films touch........... the heart, imagination, the soul. Not for those who want sex, violence and filthy language. For those who have the ability to get inside the characters and feel the emotion, the passion. Loved every second of this, the best movie for years.

This film was on my “to see” list only by recommendation of View London. What a fantastic film!!! This Golden Globes winner is a delight, especially if you’re a fan of 1920s silent movies and fashion. There was no high-speed action, sex, violence or swearing (boring for some maybe) but it made a pleasant change. A cleverly constructed, heart-warming tale of attraction and true love that is both funny and sad. And the dog made the movie!!! For those that are not used to silent films, stick with it, you’ll be pleasantly impressed!

I'm with Matthew T on this one - he doesn't often give five stars, and for me there's no question that this film merits every one of those five. It's delightful.

There's so much to enjoy and the next time I see it I'm sure there will be a host of clever touches that I didn't spot the first time round.

Hmmmmm.......i was expecting a lot of this film as the critics all seemed to be on the verge of collapsing with adulation. It was just ok and that was the verdict of the 3 friends that saw it with me.The leads are charming and the film looks great, it just really does'nt grab you. I smiled a few times and was bored often. So often films don't live up to the hype and for me this is one of them.Nice but nothing special.

Absolutely appalling film - charmless and wholly unengaging. The script is full of ridiculous anachronisms. The music is completely bland and unimaginative, highlighted by the fact that the director has to lift a great slab of music from Hitchcocks Vertigo (a 1950s talkie!). Don't waste your time with film. I did!

You must be totally devoid of any emotions, feelings or charm. What films do you like? The music won a BAFTA last night plus six other awards. Go watch Lassie.

I know I'm in a very small minority but I just can't see the charm in The Artist. For a charming and engaging film - 'The Bridges of Madison County'. Other wonderful foreign films: Of Gods and Men, The Secret in Their Eyes.

Maybe as a kid, with family listening to plays on radio with room in silence except radio, we used our imagination and became totally absorbed with the characters. I don't need explosions, bad language, sex to enthrall me. Most modern films are two dimensional (sight & sound). Other dimensions are in the head. The Artist lit my fire and imagination........... big time!

I like films with imagination and integrity. The Artist used a cookie-cutter storyline (a somewhat weak pastiche of A Star Is Born) and any attempt at integrity was wholly lost by pinching (without permission, apparantly) a large chunk of music from another film. That action alone exposes for me the attitude of the director. What a deplorable thing to do.
