We tried this place recently and found it quite disturbing to be honest!
As you walk in the door you are hit with a mixture of smells what I can only describe as a blend of stale tobaco, feline urine and pugnent cheap scented candles, being both non smokers we could tell that smoking still took place in this establishment, alarm bells should have rung at that point but we decided to give it a chance hopeing the food would be good.
Greeted by barstaff that looked tired, miserable and obviously didnt want to be there we reluctantly ordered, the beer was nice but expensive and Joan had a cofee from the machine which was as should be expected, while waiting for our meals we made our way to a table and were pressented with our cutlery which we had to clean properly ourselves as it was stained with dirty water, I should also mention that the table settings had only had a brief wipe as mine had hard tomato sauce on it.
We sat a while on very uncomfortable seats looking around at the strange collection of what we could only sumise was car boot sale tat which was on display around the walls, I still to this day cant understand why they would display cheap modern childens bedroom ornaments in this old style tradional pub?
Finaly the meals came "cooked from fresh" on what day? vegtables only just warm and stale, frozen yorkshire pudding, dry cremated meat, grease laden gravy, limp soft salad, a panini so hard at one end that it would have broken teeth and well overdone chips dripping in old burnt oil. Being hungry, polite and having already paid we tried our best to eat what was just about edible then to add insult to injury a few minutes later a very large obnoxious woman stomped into the bar growling abusive comments all the way into the rear of the bar.
The language we heard from the rear of the bar towards the chef we think "and hope after that serving" was on par to what I have heard during my 40 years working down the coal mines as a face worker. The barmaid had - Report
