My friend and I decided to visit the Ridley Arms for lunch as we hadn't been there for many years.
The pub has been well renovated and is very comfortable, with many tables to choose from.
As we were both having evening meals we decided to order a starter each so as not to spoil our appetites. Having plumped for the black pudding with poached egg etc we looked forward to a lovely runny egg oozing over the black pudding. How disappointed we were - the egg was so small (I have never seen a hen's egg that small) and firm inside. The plates were cold so the luke warm food was cold long before we'd finished eating! Add to this the fact we were charged for the salmon starter not the black pudding starter, we were not impressed on this occasion.
My favourite pub restaurant in the Newcastle area.
The food has always been excellent on the numerous days that I have visited and the pub has a very welcoming, friendly, atmosphere especially in the winter when the fire is roaring.
The service is good, friendly and prompt although you do have to order at the bar, which can be a pain if it is very busy.
Highly recommended, everyone should visit at least once.
