We had a very disappointing experience here at the weekend. We were regular patrons when it was 2 for 1 and were a bit disappointed when told it was closing for the re-branding. But they assured us that the food would be better and cheaper so were willing to give it a try.
We went on Sunday a little after 7.00. Asked about Sunday Lunch and were told they were sold out. Fair enough that often happens, but we were then told that they were also out of mixed grill and rib steak. We placed our orders for starters of soup and prawn cocktail and main courses of 6ox steak, Italian tomato chicken and the crockpot "special".
When the starters arrived they'd run out of salad for the prawn cocktail (!) and the bread with all starters was a very large bread bun - with no butter! I asked if we could have butter and after about 5 mins a waitress brought us 2 pieces (there were 3 of us). The onion soup was lovely but my husbands prawn cocktail consisted of a heap of prawns dumped on a plate with a little bowl of sauce on the side.
The mains arrived and were OK. My steak was good, the Italian chicken was OK although it was a funny dark brown colour, had very little tomato sauce or cheese and was a bit dry and my husbands main problem with the crock-pot was the portion size - a tiny dumpling and when he turned the meat out there was 5 little pieces of steak.
Never mind we thought, room for desert. Sadly, no. They had "run out of deserts". "Everything?" I asked "even ice-cream?). "Yes" they said. No deserts at all. It was not even 8.30pm.
We used to visit here often but I think it will be a long time (if ever) before we go back.
And as another point, if you're a vegetarian Forget It! There's only one main course option - Quiche!

This pub used to be fantastic - great value, great service, and great food.

Unfortunately, they have just changed owners and it is now a "Fayre & Square" pub. Yes, it is extremely cheap and you can probably dine for two for about £10!

However, this comes at a price - most of the staff have changed and they are too bothered about having a laugh and joke with each other rather than serving their customers, the food we received was ok but my mixed grill was swimming in grease and the desserts had obviously been sat out for quite a while because the ice cream was almost completely melted.

No member of staff asked us whether we had enjoyed the meal and we waited about 25 minutes with our finished plates on the table before they were taken away.

And this could be redeemed if it was busy, but the fact is that there were about 20 tables in and about 12 staff!

Price - 5*
Service - 1*
Food - 3*
Overall atmosphere - 2*

I tried to complain about the service but none of the staff could stop their conversations to listen to us so, after waiting at the empty bar for 10 minutes, we just left instead. (Obviously paid for the meal).

Extremely dissappointed since we were regular patrons for more than 3 years... will never be going back now though!

If you want a cheap meal then ok, but if you want some kind of service and atmosphere, don't bother with the Waggon Team.
