Ignore the last review, The woodmans has good cheap food, a play park outside for the kids so u can eat your meal in peace. Me and my wife went to the woodmans last night and we would definitely recommend this pub for any one who wants good food and a friendly atmosphere and lovely scenic views. The woodmans is just passed whickam on fellside road which is a lovely green part of whickam.
I went to the Woodmans Arms last night at around 6 o clock. I was told to choose a table and order the food at the bar with the table number. So i chose a table and went to the bar and ordered my food.
As i waited i was approached by a small woman and rudely told to move as she wanted to clean the tables. This was the back section of the pub so obviously she wanted them cleaned early and no one in so it would make it easier for her when she had to clear up.
It was only 6 o clock, hours away from closing time!I ordered fish and chips but then was told there was no fish left! So i ordered rump steak with peppercorn sauce (as a side order which cost about £3) and my partner ordered chicken breast in breadcrumbs and a tomato sauce.
They both came with chips, peas and a grilled tomato. When the food came my partner did not have a grilled tomato with his but i did with mine. He asked one of the staff if he could have one too as thats what it said on the menu.
The waiter returned and said there was none left!I couldnt believe m eyes when i saw the tiny little saucer with my peppercorn sauce in! My small, half, grilled tomato was way bigger than it!
We dug in anyway and i was in disbelief again as i tasted the peppercorn sauce, it was cheesy!! Im no Gordon Ramsay but i know that peppercorn sauce isn't made with cheese! UURGHH!!
So my meal was ruined as i had poured this cheesy, peppercorn sauce all over my steak! We finished our meals and went to the till to pay. There was two men infront of us in the queue ordering their food. I wasnt surprised when i heard the young man taking their order telling them they didn't have anything left they wanted aswell!I won't be returning to the Woodmans Arms.
I must say that times have changed and I have had a meal on three separate lunch times. Frankly I have no complaints worth talking about. On every occasion I have been attended to by very friendly staff and I have not had to wait for the meals being delivered to the table. The menu is quite large and the items our table have ordered have always been available. The prices (two meals for £10 usually) are very good value. You could say that the selection of vegetables is not great but for the money there can be no arguments. The present special of main course, dessert and drink for £5.69 is unbelievable and my wife was well pleased with her scampi, peas and chips, profitteroles and lemonade.
