Seeing this had been taken over in 2012 we went for tea one evening, approx 5.30pm we were the only ones in the pub which is a bit daunting, however we ordered our food from the Specials menu 2 for £8.95 and to be honest there was nothing to complain about we had corned beef pie which was very nice accompanied with proper home made chips and vegetables complete with gravy, after sampling the previous owners food it was 100% better, the only offputting thing my husband complained about was being called "darling" several times!!. The setting for the pub is fab with stunning views , the new owners definately deserve a chance plus its great value for money and prompt service.

We visited the pub on Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime. There was a shortage of staff, waited 70 minutes for our meal which arrived at ten minute intervals. My wife is still waiting for her meal. I cant complain about the food, but when you order meals for one table they should all come together. We willl think twice before we return. I should also say that the place was not that busy.K. Davison(Very very Disappointed)

I really like the Lampton. Staff are all very friendly, the meals very good and the beer is well kept. Although tied to Greene King, the IPA, Speckled Hen and Abbot Ale is always good. Along with a rotating beer every couple of weeks (this week it's 6x) and the usual John Smith's, Tetley's Smooth Flow and Lagers, the choice is very good.
Being on the edge of Gateshead, it is often the same crowd in. This may sound as though it makes the place one for the "locals" only, but it isn't. Really friendly. Give it a try.

This pub was taken over after the last reviewer's visit by a very experienced team. The food is now very pub food - simple filling fayre especially suited to our new winters!

My wife and I have just come back form our first meal there in about four months as our waistlines were indicating we were going there a bit too regularly !
A giant Yorkie the substance of which would trouble Mr Creosote for £7.95. Not exactly mid summer stuff but as I say its five days before Christmas when I write.

Service is always excellent the menu is varied but not too daring (unlike previous incumbents' Master Chef Pretensions). The staff are always very friendly, the pub has one of the best views of the valley, a decent wine list and four exceptionally well kept Greene King based beers - IPA , Abbots OSH and a bit more unusually Morlands Bitter. Décor is still modern and clean . Last but not least Christmas aside they always have really interesting playlists on their I Pod! I’ve discovered at least two new bands going to the pub . Heaven!

The quiz night on a Thursday is fun .

Only a better selection of whiskies would make it perfect !

Visited this pub last night to celebrate our sons 21st birthday. We were NOT dissapointed. All meals taken were excellant. Starters excellant, Steaks cooked beautifully, and the home made Tirimisu TO DIE FOR. Staff friendly and service spot onThis Pub has received bad press recently and this was obvious as apart from ourselves there was only another 2 guests in restaraunt all the time we were there. It definately deserves a better press due to the new owners and we will definately be going backThankyou Visiting from Cramlington NorthumberlandWELL WORTH THE TRAVEL

After receiving a leaflet through our door we decided to give sunday lunch a go and take advantage of the offer of a free bottle of house wine. I wish we hadn't bothered.

We arrived just after 12 and had our pick of tables. The staff were helpful and provided a baby seat for our toddler, saw us seated, provided menus and took our drinks order.

As our drinks arrived the place begin to fill up,like minded locals checking out the menu under the new management? A menu that looks remarkably like the old menu, even down the paper it's printed on!

We were given the choice of 2 courses for £10.95 or 3 for £12.95, not cheap for a sunday lunch and no option for just a roast. We opted for the brie garlic mushrooms & potato skins with a dip to start, followed by pork with apple sauce and roast potatoes and lamb with minted roast potatoes, both with yorkie puds and veg.

So we waited for the waitress to take our order and we waited and we waited. After 15 minutes my hubby took the initiative and ordered our food at the bar. He returned, with our free bottle of wine, which wasn't offered but had to be requested, to tell me they had no brie so it was just garlic mushrooms on their own.

The wine was undrinkable and if that's what the 'house' has selected then I won't be trying any others.

Our starters eventually arrived an hour after we had and were a big disappointment. A few fried mushrooms in a rather odd sauce with a lump of undressed lettuce & some very greasy potato skins, luke warm & hard in the middle. Nothing was seasoned, there was no salt or pepper in sight.

Our plates were eventually cleared without any enquiry as to whether we had enjoyed our food & the main course arrived after another 1/2 hour.

The pork was fatty but tasted good, the lamb was in abundance but tough and tasteless. The 2 1/2 potatoes were neither minted nor hot & the veg dry, shrivelled and tasteless.

A waste of 2 1/2 hours and £30.
