An absolute disgrace. Let me start with the good.....food we had was spot on. Only problem being the owners dog seemed to agree as he proceeded to jump up onto the seat next to me and eat my burger straight off my plate. Even when my husband went twice to ask the barman to remove the dog the third time it came over it actually removed my burger. No one was bothered and what made this worse? It was the owners dog. I did not mind the dogs I knew they were welcome, the two dogs next to us were calm and fine, lovely but this dog well its not often you go out for tea and pay for the owners dog to join you. Needless to say we left immediately and gave him the bonus of two half drunk pints to wash down his burger! Disgusting behaviour and attitude, I wonder what environmental health will think when I pass this information on!

Excellent pub, probably best in Gosforth and as another reviewer pointed out, no eejits (unlike those who visit the High Street).
Music is superb, food interesting (not superb but good for pub food) and yes the loos are awful I'm afraid. I realise it's a money thing but if you want to be seen as a "foodie" pub you gotta have decent clean-looking toilets. They are untouched and being honest, it would only take a lick of a light coloured paint and some door locks to improve them dramatically. Still a great pub though...

Possibly the best pub in Newcastle. If you enjoy drinking down the Ouseburn, appreciate real ale, quality lagers, decent wine, live music and eating well-cooked local food; you won't be disappointed. Staff are friendly and there's a wide variety of age groups and generally no knobs. An amazing turn around in under a year. I am in no way connected to the management, i do realise this sounds like I'm after a free pint!

Over rated, Over Priced Rubbish.

The Brandling Villa is quite possibly the most pretentious pub ive ever drank in. The beer is very expensive and decidedly average to drink. They have a good range of beers on the bar but when I asked for a pint of hoegarden, a beer they brandish in your face with over advertising, I was informed that they didnt have it! I then attended their folk festival which in all honesty was a complete joke. The food was over priced, the beer was warm and the bar staff were surly, rude, unprofessional and badly dressed. They looked more like scruffy students than bar staff. The kitchen staff were polite and helpful, however you could tell they didnt want to be serving food front of house.

The live music is pretty dreadful, as they are miked up far too loud, so loud that you feel more like your in a club.

Their menu is very strange, missing out many pub classics opting instead for a confused medley dishes, all of which were overpriced.

The toilets were horrendous, as was the carpark. For a pub who on their website states they are the best pub in newcastle you would think the management would do a better job or at least hire some better cleaners.

All in all, I spent far too much money seeing what the hype for this pub was all about, and all i can say is its all hype. The Brandling Villa 'experience' is basically spend a fortune on overpriced, average quality beer and food, get insulted by rude unkempt bar staff and get audio bombardment by very loud, average musicians.

Pretentious isn't the word I would use at all - it hasn't had a makeover - just a lick of paint - and when I first went in the manager apologised for that saying it was out of their budget at the time (they haven't been open even a year yet)

The staff have never been anything other than helpful when I've been in - and I've been on extremely busy nights as well as quieter evenings. And the carpark... it's a carpark... not sure what you were expecting! The pub was built over a hundred years ago so funnily enough the carpark wasn't top of the list when designing it...

The loudness of the music depends on the night you go - some evenings are music evenings where people want to hear it louder - I've been through the week when folk groups have come and played at a table. It is very unobtrusive and really lovely actually.

If I want "pub classics" (you mean scampi and chips - that kind of thing?) I can go to Wetherspoons. The toilets are not horrendous - but neither are they tiled in expensive mosaics. It's not a chain - just a few very dedicated people who want to turn it into a really nice pub. Personally I'm really pleased that a local in my area is going to so much effort - not least because I can invite my friends and for once can walk home in five mins :)

Before you ask I don't work there, I'm not related to any of them and I've never even won the pub quiz.

PS: I think the personal comment about the way the staff dressed was uncalled for - it's a local, not pizza hut.
