Went on a Groupon with an open mind as these reviews are half terrific and half dire. Decor and ambience excellent. Service very friendly if a little slow. Nachos starter: half of then were burnt, otherwise fine. Potato skins were actually greasy chips. Penne pasta with meatballs was good, pizzas were poor: flaccid bases with rather tasteless toppings. A neighbouring table had chicken dishes and they didn't look too good, the diners didn't look too happy. Puddings were bought in cheesecake etc. House wine decent and reasonable price, £10.95 a bottle.
If you go down to Asda and buy a pizza and some frozen cheesecake and a bottle of wine, then take it home and cook it, you will have a far better meal than we had at Cafe Med. It's cheap but not cheerful, and, even at Groupon price, it's mediocre at best.

First time visit for myself and my wife on 28.7.11 with Groupon Voucher. An excellent meal, wine and very good and friendly staff. Would have no problems in recommending this restaurant to anyone and will definitely pay a return visit with or without voucher!

I have been to a lot of Italian/Mediterranean restaurants over the years and this one was not good. Very basic food with very little flavour! Went on a Groupon voucher and was sure that the portions were smaller than other tables. I thought the idea of Groupon was to make you want to go back.

The starters were like you would get in any other place, nothing out of the ordinary but the main courses were very overpriced for what you got. If I paid full price I would not have been happy!

The risotto was just swimming in cream which makes it very tasteless and my partners Chicken Souvlaki was bland - 2 skewers of plain chicken and a few peppers on a bed of iceberg lettuce!

Just a few simple changes could make this place a lot better as its in a quaint position. The chef really needs to taste the food and decide if its worthy of being sent out!

Maybe the Happy Hour option is the safest bet if you go here.

I would have written this last night if I had been able to get off the toilet due to a bad stomach after eating in this establishment.
I took my partner out to Cafe Med Jesmond on the 29/06/11. Upon arriving we were met by a huge plant obstructing the doorway in hindsight I think it was trying to keep people out. After we hacked through it we were met by a pleasant waitress who explained the terms of the offer to us.

I ordered Chicken Liver Pate and my partner ordered Deep Fried Brie to start. We had been sat in the centre of the restaurant the tables in this end of the restaurant were very bunched closely together and the waitress kept banging into the back of my partners chair. The chicken Kiev was as dry as a bone and the fillet my partner had was the strangest looking fillet I have ever seen.

To cut a long story short they forgot about our deserts and then my partner found bits of chopped onion in her ice-cream. Which makes me wonder about cross contamination

She wouldn't let me complain so I put in in the feedback form.

I was ill after returning from this establishment and was up all night. I would not eat here again

Went there with Groupon Voucher. Food is really basic. Don't know what Med stands for, but if is mediteranean, then they fall far from the target! Basic pub grub, and we definitely noticed that groupon portions were smaller than "normal" ones. Don't bother with sweets. The 3.75£ slice of cheesecake is nearly inexistant in plate, was not even cut straight (looked like a "normal" portioned halved! ) . All in all , we felt cheated, even if we had a Groupon voucher.

This restaurant offers outstanding value for money. Not only is the food very reasonably priced but the quality of the food is excellent.Furthermore, we got this on a deal with Groupon which meant we only paid £14 +drinks for 4 people.[ 3 Courses ]Amazing!!.We will visit Cafe Med again as this place deserves to be patronised.Whilst it does not look anything special from the outside, it is nicely set out inside and the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The menu is wide and varied with something for everyone. Not just pasta and pizza .Having been to ASK and Zizzis in the past ,this place beats them hands down for variety of choices ,price, quality and portion size of food.
Try it, you will not be disappointed

Was in Newcastle for the weekend to see KOL concert. Booked this hotel through Groupon on the Sat night and cant rate it highly enough. Looks nothing from the outside but a little gem inside. Warmly welcomed by the manager on arrival and service throughout was first class. As for the food again top notch. We all had different starters and mains which were excellent and really filling (still managed dessert though). Worked out cheap using Groupon but would have had no complaints paying full price. Will def return.

had a lovely meal at cafe med last Saturday evening definitely worth visiting I know I will be returning. Don't understand the comment someone left regarding the White wine, me and my wife had the house White and it was perfect with our seafood pasta. Staff are great and especially the manager who seems on the ball and very friendly, will be back soon.

Having booked a table for cafe med (recommended) we were not dissapointed.the staff were really friendly and the food was fabulous. Best prawn cocktail i have had and my husband had the sea bass which he really enjoyed.did not have any room left for dessert as we were so full.got a samba on the house as it was our anniversary. Will now be a regular visitor to this place.if i could give it a 10 i would.

Used my groupon voucher last Saturday night with an open mind after reading the mixed reviews. Great welcome on arrival and very friendly staff. Ordered starter/main to begin with and enjoyed a bottle of bottle of rose wine to share. Muscles and garlic mushrooms were gorgeous and lots of them too. Main courses of lasagna and a chicken kiev (that was the size of an ostrich) were superb. Couldn't manage a dessert, as were so full, which was a nice feeling. Overall assessment. Lots of variety of dishes for all 3 courses, with great tasting food. Great atmosphere and staff were fantastic. Can only imagine that some people are too fussy and would recommend this quaint little restaurant to anyone. There's even loads of parking so no long walks to/from car. Only criticism is that the missus will expect a meal out every week as prices were so reasonable. Definitely going back again.

Went to the restaurant on 2 occasions. First occasion - food was alright for the price you pay. The steak was average and the extra sauce ordered was in a generous portion. The 2nd occasion made me think twice about patronising the place again. The burger was a homemade piece of beef in the a dry burger bun! My brother had some chicken dish that looked a bit like a sheesh kebab. Only thing was the chicken tasted like it was defrosted or boiled! Watery in the inside and absent of any taste whatsoever. Perhaps some seasoning would have been good. I'll definitely be sampling other restaurants in Ncl before having another gamble w this place!

Used the groupon voucher at Cafe Med on Friday 04 Mar 2011. There were a couple of costs added to the bill for Steak dishes and the Lamb Kleftiko and Tiramisu (£2) ,although I was informed before I ordered I still thought it was a sneaky trick. It seemed to me that the Groupon dishes were of a different sized portions to the full payment dishes but i cant confirm that. My partner ordered fillet steak which came and was definately sirlion. The sweets left a lot to be desired also as the 3 pofitiroles and the slither of cheesecake we received didnt represent value for money if we had been paying full price. All in all not the best.

Great little restaurant - new to me! The food was delicious and very cheap compared to some of the others in the area. The house red - which I forgot the name of - was very nice too. The atmosphere there was great and the waiting staff were very welcoming. Will definitely be returning regularly.

Used the groupon deal three courses for two people only £10.
This offer was to good to miss, anything from the main menu included, king prawns, steak etc,
Even the wine was very very reasonable.
As for the food it was amazing and service 2nd two none, very friendly staff and a great venue for a chat or to romance you loved one.
Yes this was to promote the restaurant but if tonight was anything to go on this place will have people queing outside.
The menu is very cheap could easily eat 3 course for two, for under £20
Thanks for a great night and will defo return.

Cafe Med quite a nice looking restaurant/diner tucked away behind the arriva bus station. On arrival the welcome was promising and we were shown to a table a little tucked away for my liking but not too cramped. From that im afraid it went downhill fast the starters arrived 50 mins later comprising of a pizza base with tomato puree glooped onto it, a very measly plate of slightly garlicky mushrooms and the thinnest calamari rings I have ever seen! As we were starving I we ate them but bland is an understatement! After yet another 30 min wait for a glass of water and no sign of the main course we decided to leave they did apologise but the place wasn't even that busy! Cafe med, great place to go if your on a diet!
