A place to meet friends, a pub to enjoy good company, a pub for excellent food at realistic prices, attentive staff who provide top notch service; cracking pub food and beer! Highly recommended.
"Attentive staff. Top notch service. Cracking beer"
Well, that wasn't the case last night when my wife and I and two friends visited the Spread Eagle. The landlord was too busy reading the paper to acknowledge us - hardly attentive. The barmaid looked as though a smile would ruin her face. Of the 3 hand pumps on the bar only one was available. When I asked if this was usual the answer given was 'yes'. So we settled for the London Pride. Having given the beer every chance we had to return it as it was completely undrinkable. While the beer was exchanged readily enough for two pints of Guiness there was not the hint of an apology at having been served with such awful beer in the first place.
We had been to the Spread Eagle before and found it lacking but decided to give it another chance. Never again.
Such a pity. The pub is in a good location but is badly let down by staff who at best can only be described as disinterested.
