I took my family (Husband, two boys 13 and 10 and my mother) to the granary for a meal on Saturday evening, what a mistake!
It was quite busy as the Newcastle Arsenal match was on the tv and people from the sports bar were getting drinks from the main bar, things started to go wrong when the waitress gave me some menus and said she would take our order in a minute.
After about 5 minutes we decided to order at the bar, where she had trouble using the little hand held order automatic order pad which kept trebling the order, my mother wanted to know if the salmon could be served with potatoes and veg rather than the rice,
I asked the waitress, who turned to the man at the end of the bar staring at the tv and asked him ( he was the chef!) We returned to our table where I wrapped myself in my mums coat, it was so cold, and waited, and waited, and waited.
After a while our cutlery was delivered, and husband got our second round of drinks, and we waited some more.
Eventually the meal arrived, the salmon did have the potatoes, but no veg, son number 1 had the fish, the batter was pale and incipid, with lots of bones in it, the chips, although home made, were greasy and raw.
Son number 2 had childrens chicken nuggets, again the batter was pale and incipid, the nuggets themselves were chewy and the same half cooked chips.
My husband had the mixed grill, which the menu stated "steak cooked to your liking, a half chicken breast..."
the well done steak was a 2" by 2" piece of shoe leather, the chicken breast was 3 strips, the gammon was the same size as the steak but tasted like bacon chop and one of the sausages was cold, and the salad on the plates was brown and wilted.
I think I faired better than the rest of my family, I ordered the lasagne with garlic ciabatta, this was ok but I did find lots of little burnt bits mixed in with the meat,
I didn't get to eat
